What is Polarization Training?

What is "polarization" training?

"Women are not small men" argues applied researcher Dr. Stacy Sims ... Yet the research on physical health & training has mainly been done on cis-men and/or unhealthy populations ... & often mis-applied to all genders & all fitness levels. According to her research & work with female athletes, women are built for endurance ... we can go & go & go, right?! Whether it's physical, mental or emotional, you've likely experienced your ability to just keep going.

(Plz note that there's very little research on women & training for longevity, and even less / none on LGBTQ+ persons & training for longevity. Dr. Sims currently speaks to the research on women & persons who have / have had a menstrual cycle)

Women are built for endurance, and therefore endurance is NOT what we need to be training as we age ... according to Dr. Sims, we need to be training for power, strength & intensity.

**The other end of polarization training consists of TRUE RECOVERY activities like:

- sloooooooowwww walking

- mobility work, &

- **traditional, like-it-was-done-back-in-the-day YOGA**

Yoga that focuses on RECOVERY (in modern-day terms) or STABILITY & EASE (in Yoga Sutra terms 🙂). Yoga that allows your nervous system to recover, hormones to balance, & your body to be ready for the next challenge (whether in your daily life or during your next workout).

So, if you're in perimenopause / post-menopause, look up Dr. Stacy Sims. Get curious about polarization training -- & use your Yoga practice for what it's meant for - stability, ease, & recovery.

Dr. Stacy Sims --

Society has taught women to devalue their power. That’s especially true during menopause when we're told it’s time to slow down and are pointed to the cultural sidelines. Thankfully, that’s changing now that everyone from Oprah to Abby Wambach are putting menopause in the spotlight and trying to create an empowering culture. My goal is to also help women maintain their actual physical power on the playing field, whatever that may be. That means turning down the volume and turning up the intensity.
