Honor Your Voice

"Winter is a season of recovery and preparation."

--Paul Theroux

Christmas ads and movies pressure us to make the most of the holiday season, manifest grand resolutions, and manufacture joy at every moment.

Maybe you're all in.

And maybe there's a small voice that whispers, "Wait a minute."

We are part & parcel of Nature herself. We are not separate. All of the seasons - Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter - are within us. We renew & grow (Spring), we feel fiery & productive (Summer), we reap the benefits of our efforts (Fall) ...

... and there are times when we recover, when we rest, when we prepare. This is Winter energy.

Imbalance arises when we keep going on one track & forget the other options.

To keep producing leads to ... that's right, burnout.

To keep harvesting leads to ... hoarding.

To keep growing without limits ... I heard someone say, "One of the only things that grows without limiting itself is cancer."

As you well know, we live in a society that does not honor recovery & preparation.

Yet that small, wise voice reminds us of the Wisdom of Winter.

Honor your small, wise voice.

Like the Cardinal, we can trust in the Wisdom of each season. We can trust that as we honor the tasks of the Winter season - recovery, reflection, gratitude, resilience-building - we will experience harmony within ourselves & with those around us.
