Grateful

Jim, me & the boys (our old dogs) are currently bundled up due to our furnace going out two days ago. It’s been between 22 - 27 degrees Fahrenheit in Southwest PA, yikes! I’m very grateful for a new roof last year & for Jim working on the insulation in the attic. We’ve kept at a balmy 50 degrees Fahrenheit with covering windows with blankets & using space heaters :).

I recognize how privileged I am & how used to comfort I am ;). Being a pitta-dominant person, my tendency in stressful situations is toward moodiness & frustration. Translation: I’m not very nice. And so just this short period of discomfort has revealed, once again, how much internal work I still have to do.

I also recognize, once again, the amazing community we have here. We’ve had friends - some of YOU! - offer space heaters, Airbnb space, as well as their own homes. We have family members far-away offering their best advice on how to keep pipes from freezing. We have a parishioner at St. Peter’s who coordinated one of his guys to come out on a Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend to start working on the furnace. I am humbled & grate-FULL.

It looks like we’ll be getting fixed up & warmed up today. Again, thanks to amazing people with skills.

All that said, I hope you’ll join me in cultivating our “gratitude muscles” this holiday season. From Chair Yoga on the 10th to a Solstice Workshop on the 15th to Winter Solstice Flow & Yin on the 21st — there’s lots of opportunity for practice :).
